Many times people are given a false picture of Christianity. It is usually depicted as a “safe” religion where everyone who behaves correctly will have a nice comfortable life. But reality is, the hardships of this life are no different for believers as it is for non-believers.
Life happens!
And being a Christian is not always easy.
Converts that are new in the faith often abandon Christianity when troublesome times come because they have been presented with a Gospel that is weak, easy, and not true discipleship.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote in his book, The Cost of Discipleship, that “when Christ calls a man, He bids him, come and die!”
Yes, there is a cost to discipleship!
It might be a loss of friends or family. Or it may mean not being able to enjoy our own pleasures in life. It could be swimming against the current of culture and peers. It may be suffering in a way that seems no one else has ever suffered.
But those who understand the life and purpose of Jesus, and who “take up their cross daily” as He said we must… those are the Christians who recognize what true discipleship is.
Listen as Pastor Join shares why we should not be surprised by the troubles of this life. And learn how you can set your hopes on an eternal reward in heaven!
